Tactics
Possible Anti-RFID tactics that could be or are being used by activists:
- 1 Providing information on why this technology us emerging — Future gazing at the military/industrial agenda
- 2 Attack the visual images created around RFID
- 3 Offer alternatives to RFID without the surveillance potential – 2D barcodes etc.
- 4 Direct political attack at the legislative level
- 5 Hacking the RFID encryption – makes claims for improvement – not political – white hat hackers
- 6 Create spectacle and attach message
- 7 How do we expose the control nature of RFID
- 8 Attack the language of persuasion – map the language
- 9 Interrogate the current metaphors and offer new citical ones
- 10 By association. Associate the technology with negative things. RFID = SPAM
- 11 Health issues caused by the radiation from the readers as well as active tags
- 12 Invisibility/Visibility
- 13 Fear mongering, RFID Avalanche – tags interacting
- 14 Appeal for more democratic values – two way communication (radio as both transmitter and receiver)
- 15 Different data politics (People as submarine, People as Databases) – choose to disclose
- 16 Publicise the nature of the RFID as control
